never say never, unless

This is the fourteenth of 21 posts serving as a devotional and prayer guide building up to the launch of creativecommunity.tv on Saturday November 6th.

Every pastor I know has a problem with exaggerating. (See, I just exaggerated.) They’ll count every kid, every worker, every baby still in the womb, every member who left the church six years ago as part of their church, just to make their attendance sound higher.

But we all fall into that trap don’t we? We exaggerate how much we make, how much we know, how things are going in our life, etc. Even Jesus was accused of exaggerating in John 8 when he told the crowd, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of live.”

The Pharisees challenged Jesus because he claimed that those who followed Him would never walk in darkness. The religious leaders of Jesus’ day only knew how to bring temporarily hope to people’s lives. They could offer temporary forgiveness of sins through sacrifice and temporary joy through customs and feasts, but this was more a facade to the greater problem: evil never seemed to let up.

That’s what made Jesus’ words so offensive to those who hadn’t encountered His love: He promised that people would never have to walk in darkness, ever. Did you know that’s the life he has for you? And that’s the message that He wants you to carry to people who feel overwhelmed by the pressure, stress, and darkness of life without Him.

Pray and ask God to use you as a light to someone overwhelmed with darkness today.
