shine like stars in the universe

I love the history of Westport and how it was settled and platted by the McCoy family. They originally came to Westport as missionaries to minister to Indian tribes in the area. Just a few years later, they would also be instrumental in establishing Kansas City.

Today Westport is the art and cultural center of the Kansas City area. It’s a place where different races, different religious beliefs, and different economic backgrounds come together to live, eat, and play together. It’s not your average suburban culture.

In the midst of such a diverse community, how do the people of God rise up and be heard? How do we communicate the greatest story ever told to a people who seemed unchanged by its message?

In Philippians chapter 2, Paul encourages us to continue allowing God to work in so that He can work through us. He also writes that if we can do everything without doubting or criticizing His will, then we’ll become blameless and pure.

And in verse 15 he tells us the result of a life devoted to God, “...you’ll shine like stars in the universe.” So maybe we don’t need a louder megaphone or a slicker ad campaign to be heard. If we listen to Paul, the key to being heard, or better yet shining, is to allow God’s will to work in us. The result is that our relationship with Him will empower us to stand out in our generation.

What areas of your life do you need God to work in you? In what areas of your life are you asking God to work through you?

I'm a pastor and strategy leader at a great church in Kansas City, MO.  Ronnin and I have been married for over 10 years and we have two beautiful, blond headed boys.  I'm interested in loving my family and being part of a community that impacts the spiritual landscape of our region.
