but what will happen next

This is the eighth of 21 posts serving as a devotional and prayer guide building up to the launch of creativecommunity.tv on Saturday November 6th.

In the Old Testament, we’re provided with a unique insight of the dialogue between God and Moses. As much as we see Moses as a great man and one of the fathers of our faith, he was also someone who argued with God and questioned His plans.

Moses’ prevalent question to God was, “But what will happen next?” He wanted to make sure that if he did what God told him to do, that it would make a difference and have the intended impact. It’s that same question that keeps many of us immobilized. We’re ready to respond to God’s will as long as we know that everything will come out fine and that it will be worth our sacrifice. If we’re really honest, many of us treat obedience like investing: we’ll do it as long as we get a good return for our efforts.

But in Exodus 3 we get a picture of what happens when God’s will comes at the sacrifice of our own comfort. God explains to Moses that his obedience would still result in Pharaoh’s anger. But God goes on to explain that, “I will strike the Egyptians with wonders of my hand...”

And that’s what happens when we obey God, no matter what’s on the other side of his will: we open up our lives to the miraculous power of God. Pray today that God will give you faith to obey him, even if you don’t know what will happen next.
